List of Major Changes for v1.5.0
Recommended Testing Procedures
Purpose
The Flyff Universe Public Test Server (hereby referred to as “PTS”) is a testing environment for future updates where a selection of players are invited to participate in large scale testing. The goal of the PTS is to better mimic real player interactions and gameplay with new features in order for the target update to smoothly transition into the live servers. The PTS will act as a safe environment to extensively test new features and provide players with a more direct line of feedback regarding the target features. It will be used to catch bugs in development, improve upon balance of features if applicable, or any other changes needed.
The nature of the PTS will not follow that of a live server in regards to update schedules, event schedules, cash shop, and more. As it is a testing environment, it may be unstable and unpredictable at times, with updates being deployed at any time at the developers’ discretion. This means you may experience crashes, server downtimes, rollbacks, or other issues.
List of Major Changes for v1.5.0
For v1.5.0, here is a list of the major features and changes that developers will be expecting the most feedback on. Note that this is not a full list of changes or patch notes, and there are many more small changes, but an overview of new things that require testing.
- Third Jobs
- New third job skill system (master variations, passive skills, skill synergies, new stats, new stat scales, charging skills, etc.)
- Skill Pages
- Maximum level cap increase
- New Equipment
- Kaillun Continent
- Ankou’s Asylum
- New dungeon mechanics
- Increased maximum Ultimate upgrades and different upgrade system past +5
- Ultimate Jewel Synthesis
- Graphical Updates (water, soft particles, rain reflections)
Recommended Testing Procedures
While the most important thing to do is simply play the game and engage with new features, there are a few recommendations from the developers to make sure the PTS is as productive as possible.
While testing new features, try to also engage with older content. This makes sure that nothing existing has been broken in the process of creating new content, making the transition to the live servers smooth.
If you have multiple devices that you enjoy Flyff Universe on, make sure to occasionally play on them all and not just one device. The more devices tested, the more confident we can be that any core technical changes such as engine improvements are still compatible.
Engage with the community and your fellow testers. Not only is group-play something that is hard to test without large scale testing like the PTS, discussions amongst the testers will promote balance and produce more coherent feedback.
Try to break the game! If you manage to find strange edge cases that don’t seem to yield intended results, the PTS is the perfect place to do so. Refer to the bug bounty section, as it may be relevant.
Include relevant information when giving feedback. For example, if you are reporting a graphical bug related to water, make sure you mention what kind of device you experienced the bug on, and include screenshots. See the Giving Feedback section for more information.
Cash Shop
On the PTS, everyone has free fCoins. You can use these fCoins in the cash shop as you wish to help with the testing process. This should allow appropriate testing of cash shop related features such as any changes to upgrade systems.
Leveling and Rates
Experience gain on the PTS is accelerated. This is to ensure that most of the time is spent testing new features rather than leveling, given the time constraint on PTS phases. The rate of experience is around 10 times that of a live server, and can be variably changed during the period of the PTS, up to the developers’ discretion. Class change scrolls will also be available that you may use to swap between classes on the same character, if you wish to do so. Furthermore, PTS phases may allow characters to start at a set level and class, such as 160.
Drop rates as well as Penya rates are also increased, although this may be changed depending on testing requirements if original drop rates are something that the developers would like feedback on.
Note that during PTS phases with significant changes to existing systems such as v1.5.0, players may have to (and are encouraged) participate in old content such as leveling with first and second job skills, running old dungeons, etc.. This is why level change scrolls will not allow you to go straight to level 165 and third jobs, as extensive testing of older features is required to ensure that everything functions normally.
Dungeon Cooldowns
On the PTS, dungeon cooldowns are reduced to 10% that of their original live server cooldowns. This will allow extensive testing of new and old dungeons within the time limit of the PTS.
Bug Bounty Program
A common practice in many public testing environments is a bug bounty program. These programs aim to reward and encourage testers to find bugs and subsequently report them. The PTS may offer (non-competitive) rewards to those who are the most active testers or those who find severe bugs. These rewards may be in the form of exclusive cosmetics on main servers, such as a cloak similar to the Alpha Tester Cloak that was previously given to early players of the game, exclusive titles, and more. Productive testers may also be guaranteed entry into future PTS phases.
Giving Feedback
The only way to give feedback, report bugs, or make suggestions during the PTS is by joining the PTS discord server. This discord server is primarily developer-run, and is where you will have a more direct line of communication. There are relevant sections and forum threads, so please make sure you post your feedback in the appropriate sections. The more thoughtfully you provide your feedback, the higher chance it has to yield results with the developers. Keep in mind that PTS phases have time constraints, so feedback should be kept realistic. Furthermore, feedback should always be constructive and meaningful, troll posts or blatantly unconstructive feedback will be disregarded and may result in your removal from the PTS.
While the PTS discord server is public, you will not have access to most channels without the Verified Tester role. This role is given to those who are accepted into the PTS and allows you to fully participate in the discord. Since this discord is the main way to provide feedback, it is expected of all approved testers to join. Once in-game, the discord can also be accessed through a menu at the limited NPC [PTS Manager] Mewdev, in Northern Flarine.
